Engage in a classic test of wits with Chess, a board logic game that challenges players to develop their tactics, strategy, and visual memory. The core objective is to maneuver your pieces across the board to achieve checkmate against the opposing king. This game offers ten distinct levels of difficulty to accommodate varying skill sets, alongside a dedicated 2 player mode for direct competition. Players can progress through levels, aiming to unlock new challenges as they refine their play.
Mastering the Board
The game’s mechanics are centered around moving various pieces, each with unique capabilities, across an 8×8 grid. The pawn typically advances one square forward, though its initial move can be two squares, and it captures diagonally one square forward. The king moves one square in any direction—vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. The queen offers extensive movement, covering any distance vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, while the rook moves any distance vertically or horizontally. Knights follow a distinct L shaped pattern, moving two squares in one direction (vertical or horizontal) and then one square perpendicularly. Bishops move any distance along diagonals. The ultimate goal is to achieve checkmate, a state where the opponent’s king is under immediate attack (in check) and has no legal move to escape. A stalemate occurs when a player has no legal moves but is not in check, resulting in a draw. Special moves like Castling, a simultaneous king and rook move, and En passant, a specific pawn capture, add layers of strategic depth.
Progression and Play Modes
Players can advance through ten levels of difficulty, providing a structured path to improve their strategic abilities. Beyond standard matches, the game includes Chess Puzzles, offering specific tactical challenges. A 2 player mode is available, allowing two individuals to play against each other on the same device. Progression is marked by unlocking levels, and players can earn Stars for completing levels without using the undo button, indicating a clean victory.
Assistance and Customization
To aid players, the game incorporates a Game Assistant (Helper), provides hints for moves, and allows players to undo their last move. For visual preference, the game offers seven different themes and two board views—a vertical 2D perspective and a horizontal 3D perspective.
The recent version 2.9.5 introduced unique Victory Screens for each level, providing a distinct visual reward upon completing a challenge.
